How to Stay Safe Using Propane in New England:
Safely Connecting Your Propane Cylinder
First, make sure your appliance is turned off, then follow the manufacturer’s instructions and check for gas leaks between the cylinder and the equipment’s fitting or regulator. You can spray a leak detection solution or soap/water mixture on the fitting: slowly open the cylinder’s valve, and check to see if any bubbles appear. If you see any, close the valve, tighten the fitting, and try again.
Transporting Your Propane Cylinder
When transporting propane cylinders, be sure to secure them in an upright position so they can’t fall, shift, or roll. Always head straight to your destination and take your cylinder out of the vehicle as soon as you arrive. You should never leave a propane cylinder in a hot vehicle for a long time.
Proper Propane Cylinder Storage
Store your propane cylinders outdoors, never in enclosed areas like sheds or garages. Always keep the propane cylinder away from your home, and any heat sources. Take extra cylinders far away from your grill and propane appliances for storage. All ignition sources should be kept far away from cylinders.
